Hechi disabled athletes win 59 golds in five years

Disabled athletes from Hechi won 59 gold medals in sports events at home and abroad during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), according to a report from Hechi Daily on March 22.

The outstanding athletes won 128 medals in total.

Peng Qiuping, from Yizhou city, a swimmer on the Chinese team at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games, won two gold medals and one silver medal, breaking three world records in the process.

Hechi's disabled athletics team performed well at the fourth Guangxi special educational arts festival, winning 10 medals. More than five athletes have been granted awards by government authorities. The achievements were helped in part by the government and organizations dedicated to supporting disabled people.
