A taste of Hechi II
There is a Chinese saying that goes "food is the first need for people". Special local foods, in some aspects, can be regarded as important reflections of local culture and history.
Various types of foods in the city of Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region may not enjoy a level of fame as immense as the eight major cuisines of China, but are still delicious enough to seize the taste buds of local residents as well as tourists.
Pillow Zongzi, named after their pillow-like shape, is much bigger than the normal Zongzi, a kind of traditional Chinese food usually served during Dragon Boat Festival. The food is sticky rice and other ingredients, such as pork and sweet dates, wrapped in bamboo leaves.
Originating in Dahua and Du'an county, Pillow Zongzi is very popular among local residents who usually cut the Zongzi into slices and fry them. A Pillow Zongzi is usually big enough to serve a whole family.
