A conference discussing the growth of Hechi's sugarcane industry was held on March 8.

At the conference, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region assigned Hechi the target of cultivating 25,000 mu (1,666.67 hectares) of sugarcane fields in 2016, in the hope of bringing in a high yield this year. Hechi has planned to complete 130,000 mu of sugarcane fields by 2020.

Hechi cultivated a total of 46,660 mu sugarcane fields in 108 areas in 2014 and 2015, exceeding local targets. This year, the city has cleared space for 15,282 mu of sugarcane crops in 43 areas, amounting to 61.13 percent of the annual target.

Sugarcane is one of the most important cash crops in Hechi, with planting bases running through nine counties and districts. After years of development, it has become a pillar of local industry and a key source of income for farmers.
