Guangxi has been preparing to increase the subsistence allowance levels for rural and urban people since Oct 1 and ordered the financial and civil affairs departments of cities in the region to grant subsidies by the new standard before Dec 31.

According to the Social Assistance Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Department of Civil Affairs, the average basic cost of living allowances for urban residents increases 20 yuan ($3.1), from 260 yuan to 280 yuan per capita per month. As for rural people, the subsistence allowances rises from 110 yuan to 125 yuan.

Each city can appropriately raise the new standard depending on local economic and social development levels and financial resources. The application process will also be simplified to provide convenience to low income people and enhance appraisal efficiency.
