Through the efforts of more than 2,000 workers over two years, the two parts of the Gulong Bridge in the Dahua Yao autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi, were connected on Nov 17, marking the completion of the whole line of the secondary road from Dahua to Bama.

Dai Peizhu, executive deputy director of the Dahua-Bama Road Construction Office of the Guangxi New Development Transportation Group, said that the Gulong Bridge project had faced obstacles since the construction started on Oct 27, 2013. The crews overcame the complicated geological conditions and the continuous storm-flood attacks and finally folded the rigid box beam into place.

The Gulong Bridge is the dominant engineering challenge of the secondary road from Dahua to Bama, requiring an investment of more than 51 million yuan (about $8 million). The total length of the bridge reaches 458.58 meters and the bridge structural design period is 100 years.

The Dahua-Bama secondary road will open to the traffic on Dec 31 this year.
