China-ASEAN Youth Foreign Language Public Speaking Contest kicks off in Hechi

The Hechi preliminary stage of Guangxi Hand-in-Hand China-ASEAN Youth Foreign Language Public Speaking Contest was held at the Guangxi Modern Polytechnic College in Hechi on Oct 13.

It was jointly sponsored by Hechi foreign and overseas Chinese affairs office and Guangxi Modern Polytechnic College.

The contest was held in English, Chinese and ASEAN languages categories. More than 100 contestants applied to participate, with 15 of them qualifying to take part in the quarter-finals to be held in Qinzhou from Oct 18 to 20.

The public speaking contest aims to encourage communication and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The contestants should be those who work, study or live in Hechi.

The Guangxi Hand-in-Hand China-ASEAN Youth Foreign Language Public Speaking Contest is an important public diplomacy activity in the autonomous region and nationwide. It is of significance in deepening traditional friendship between China and ASEAN countries and facilitating further development and promotion of Guangxi.
