The Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi, plans to hold the first red pomelo festival from Oct 17 to 25 to promote tourism and highlight county's development.

The festival includes activities such as the red pomelo sales exhibition, fruit picking and garden tours. The nine-day festival also includes a Maonan cultural week, during which an art show, the ASEAN International Mountain Bike Cycling Invitational Tournament and a folk song vocal concert will also be held.

Red pomelo is a juicy and tasty fruit. It is often referred to as the "King of Pomelo". Huanjiang has been striving to develop its characteristic fruits industry in recent years and has planted red pomelos in an area of more than 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) so far.

According to Huanjiang food production authority, the county is estimated to produce 500 tons of red pomelo this year, worth 5 million yuan ($788,000).
