Yizhou starts financial IC card use in public transportation

Yizhou municipal government and Hechi branch of People's Bank of China held a joint launch ceremony to unveil financial integrated circuit card (IC card) in public transportation.

The project covers a total of 71 buses in nine bus lines in Yizhou, a county-level city in Hechi, Guangxi. The IC card holders will get 20 percent discount on air-conditioned buses and 10 percent discount on ordinary buses with no air-condition. The new scheme is expected to benefit nearly 400,000 local residents.

As one of the national second batch pilot city of financial IC industry, Hechi has been vigorously promoting the application and wide-spread use of financial IC card in public services since 2014.

At present, financial IC card is not only used in public transportation industry, but also in medical treatment, social security and water and electricity payments, paving the way for closer integration between financial and public services.
