Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi, is prepared to harvest its 320,000 mu (21,333 hectares) Chinese chestnuts every September, with an estimated output of more than 20,000 tons valued in excess of 100 million yuan ($15.71 million).

Donglan county is a national level high quality Chinese chestnut production base. Its red oil chestnuts and purple oil chestnuts are renowned for their big size, beautiful color and good taste.

In recent years, Donglan county government has strived to support Chinese chestnuts sector by allotting land, adjusting the structure of the plant industry and offering technical and marketing services to local farmers. Apart from expanding the planting scale of Chinese chestnuts, Donglan also pays attention to improving the quality by carrying out a number of measures, including top-grafting.

Donglan's Chinese chestnuts planting area was only 89,000 mu in 2000. Now, 15 years on, the planting area has almost quadrupled.
