Fengshan to hold first walnut festival

The Fengshan county in Hechi, Guangxi, will hold the first walnut festival from Sept 1 to 10, according to the preparatory committee.

The walnut festival aims to further enhance the popularity of Fengshan's walnuts and promote the county's eco-culture tourism brand.

Sponsored by Fengshan Youth Travel Service and Fengyou Walnut Branch of Guangxi Fengshan Agro-Forestry Production Specialized Cooperatives, the festival will hold various activities including walnut picking, baking, photography, painting, scientific research and eating competitions.

Fengshan county started to energetically develop the walnut industry in 2000. At present, it has a total walnut planting area of 330,000 mu ($51,513 hectares), benefiting 32,000 farmer households from 98 administrative villages in nine towns. In 2014, Fengshan trial produced 40,000 mu walnuts, yielding 500 tons, which is worth more than 18 million yuan.
