Yizhou children win awards in national lute competition

Ten children from Yizhou, a county-level city of Hechi in Guangxi, won silver, bronze and excellence awards in the Second "Liaoyuan Cup" Chinese Lute Performance Competition, the Hechi Daily reported.

The nationwide "Liaoyuan Cup" Chinese Lute Performance Competition is often referred to as "the Olympic Games" in the Chinese lute circles. A total of 71 musicians from across the world, 42 famous Chinese lute educators and performers, and 29 composers and theorists acted as judges.

More than 1,000 stood out from a total of 5,800 contestants from countries such as China, Japan, Canada and Singapore, qualifying for semi-finals and the final held in Liaoyuan, Jilin province, July 27 to 30.

Aged from 7 to 34, the contestants competed in different groups, such as professional youth group, professional teenager group, professional ensemble group, non-professional ensemble group, non-professional children group and non-professional adult group. After 105 matches in total, 126 contestants won various awards. Ten Yizhou children are from Yizhou Cherub Art Troupe, which won the Excellent Organization Award for good performance.
