A total of 42 left-behind children from 35 families in Hechi boarded a train heading for Dongguan in Guangdong province for family reunion on Aug 3, Hechi Daily reported.

The free activity was held by Hechi's Federation of Trade Unions. The children came from five counties and districts in Hechi.

The week-long activity that commenced on Aug 3 includes visits to Guangzhou's scenic spots, taking family photos, a family reunion dinner, watching children's film, presenting books and schoolbags as gifts to the children and free time for affectionate interaction between the children and their parents.

Hechi has about one million rural workers, with 670,000 of them leaving for faraway places to make a living. Some of the children taking part in the activity haven't seen their parents for about two to three years. The activity helps enhance love between left-behind children and their migrant worker parents, and stimulate the workers to better devote to the development of the society.

Specially-assigned staff will take the children and their accompanied relatives back to Hechi after the end of the reunion activity.
