Du'an-Guangzhou container marine line opens

The launch ceremony for the Du'an-Guangzhou container marine line was held at Du'an county in Hechi on July 21, marking the official start of the container services from the Hongshui River Basin to the Pearl River Delta.

The marine line that starts off from Du'an goes through Laibin, Wuxuan, Pingnan, Wuzhou, Yunfu, and Zhaoqing ports, and ends at Guangzhou ports. The whole journey takes seven days. Cargos can then be transported to major global harbors from ports in the Pearl River Delta.

The Hongshui River is a main branch of the Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin and an important water transportation channel from southwest China to the country's southeastern coastal areas. The river and its upstream hinderland have abundant resources, including more than 10 billion tons of coal and large amount of aluminum, iron, zinc, gold and other minerals.

The Hongdu Work Zone of Du'an Harbor District belonging to Hechi Harbor, operated by Guangxi Xijiang River Development Investment Group, is a significant work zone in the Hechi segment of the Hongshui River.

The Du'an-Guangzhou container marine line offers container and break-bulk cargo logistics services, becoming the only container operator in the Hechi segment of the Hongshui River. The opening up of the new marine line will further promote economic and trade cooperation between Guangxi and the Pearl River Delta and port logistics development.

Ning Wu, deputy general manager of Guangxi Xijiang River Group, said that the container marine line was a milestone in the development of waterways along the Hongshui River. It is of great importance to enhance the modern water carriage logistics of the river, decrease enterprises' logistics costs and transform regional resources advantage into industrial strength.

He also predicted that sources of container goods in the Hongshui River Basin would increase sharply and the container throughput might reach 10,000 within one to two years.
