Guangxi to develop low-carbon CAL CARB industrial chain
The Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region government held a press conference on July 23 to reiterate its resolution in developing a low-carbon calcium carbonate industrial chain.
According to location and distribution characteristics of calcium carbonate mineral resources and industries, Guangxi will set up demonstration bases in Hezhou, Laibin, Hechi and Baise. The industrial scale is expected to break through 100 billion yuan ($16.1 billion) by 2020.
Hezhou will act as the leading city and will actively construct the whole calcium carbonate industrial chain. Laibin will focus on developing downstream industries such as paper, plastic and rubber making. Hechi will mainly develop the supporting industries by using coarse whiting power and the derivative products. Finally, Baise is going to form an industrial cluster by developing coarse whiting, light calcium carbonate and activated calcium carbonate.
Guangxi is rich in calcium carbonate mineral resources with its main categories being limestone, dolomite, marble and calcite. Hezhou has the largest white marble mineral resources in South China, with reserves volume reaching 2.6 billion cubic meters.
At present, the development and utilization level of Guangxi's calcium carbonate resources remains low. Guangxi's land departments will provide policy support to help transform the resource superiority into economic advantage and realize the optimum exploration of resources.
