Donglan county celebrates Zhuzhu Festival
Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi, celebrated the Zhuzhu Festival on July 14.
The Festival organized various activities, such as folk custom and culture performances, spinning top, cross-bow shooting, and some competitions, all of which displayed profound cultural riches and spiritual features of the Bunu Yao ethnic group.
The Zhuzhu Festival, previously known as Danu Festival, is the most important traditional festival of the Yao ethnic group and marked the beginning of a new year. It usually falls on the 29th day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar in honor of Miluotuo, the creator goddess in the Yao belief. The celebration always lasts for three days. The festival may be celebrated either once a year or in every three to five years.
The festival was awarded the title of "Wild China – Best Cultural Tourism Festival with National Characteristics". It provides Donglan a platform to protect and inherit its folk culture, promote the tourism culture resources and raise its profile.
