The opening ceremony for the 10th Bunu Yao Zhuzhu Festival in the Dahua Yao autonomous county was held at the museum square in Qibainong National Geological Park on July 13.

Under the theme of "amazing Dahua, ecological Yao villages", the Festival organized various activities, such as folk culture performances, spinning top, cross-bow shooting, and some competitions, all of which displayed profound cultural riches and spiritual features of the Bunu Yao ethnic group.

The Zhuzhu Festival, previously known as Danu Festival, is the most important traditional festival of the Yao ethnic group. It usually falls on the 29th day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar in honor of Miluotuo, the creator goddess in Yao belief. The celebration always lasts for three years. The festival may be celebrated either once a year or in every three to five years.

The festival was awarded the title of "Wild China – Best Cultural Tourism Festival with National Characteristics". It provides Dahua a platform to protect and inherit its folk culture, promote the tourism culture resources and raise its profile.
