Hechi organizes blood drive
Many Hechi youths donated blood voluntarily at Diwang Square on May 18 to relieve the shortage.
Recently, the blood inventory level of Hechi's center blood station fell below the warning line. It could only satisfy the demand of clinical rescue. Other patients could just use the blood through mutual aid donation.
After learning about the shortage, Hechi's Youth League committee united with the center blood station to organize a volunteer blood drive to guarantee a good stock of blood for clinical use.
Up to 6:00 pm, healthy youths of the appropriate ages from 22 departments participated in the activity. Over 200 local residents joined and 83 donated their blood after a physical examination. Hechi's center blood station collected a total of 25,800 milliliters of blood that day.
Peng Lianjue, a youth league volunteer representative and also a blood station staff, said that she felt happy that regular blood donation not only can benefit her health, but also can help others. She started to donate blood in 2004 when she was a medical school student. Now, she donates blood every six months and the total amount has reached 3,600 milliliters since 2009.
The counties and districts of Hechi will organize volunteer blood drives in accordance with their practical situation from May 18 to 28.
