Nandan plants over 8,000 mu kiwifruit
Nandan county in Hechi, Guangxi, has planted over 8,000 mu (533.33 hectares) of Hongyang kiwifruit.
About 600 mu of planting area will bear harvest this year, an expected yield of 600 tons.
Hongyang kiwifruit is China's only authorized early-maturing variety with red flesh. It has characteristics of high quality, high yield and strong disease resistance. With high sweetness and abundant Vitamin C, Hongyang kiwifruit is very popular among consumers.
Nandan county planted Hongyang kiwifruit experimentally from Sichuan province as one of the key industries to aid poverty in 2009.
Local experts checked the three-year orchards in August, 2011. The result showed that the yield per mu was 446.82 kilograms, with a unit output value of 9,000 yuan ($1449.9). With short maturing period and high profits, the new kind of kiwi fruit attracted attention and developed into an industry in 2013.
The county plans to have 60,000 mu of kiwi trees in 2020, with an annual output value of 1.8 billion yuan.
