An expedition team recently found what they believed might be a primitive monkey skeleton during a scientific investigation in Fengshan county, Hechi, Southwest China's Guangxi.

The skeleton was discovered in Hedgehog Cave, an underground river cavern near Bala Monkey Mountain. It was the first time that experts discovered large animal remains in Fengshan over the past 20 years.

Jean Bottazzi, a French explorer, said that the discovery was twice the size of an adult human skeleton, with a similar hand and foot shape.

The Bala Monkey Mountain area still has a good ecological environment. Wild animals such as hedgehogs and boars are sometimes seen up to now. Further testing is necessary to determine whether the skeleton came from a monkey, according to the expedition team.

The team included a total of 17 experts, with 13 foreigners and four Chinese. Started on April 12, the exploration focused on the underground river system and the naturally formed pits (tiankeng in Chinese) of Fengshan.
