An expedition team composed of Chinese, Italian and French experts recently held a scientific investigation in Fengshan county, Hechi, Southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The expedition team included a total of 16 experts, with 13 foreigners and three Chinese. Lasting 15 days, the exploration focused on the underground river system and the naturally formed pits (tiankeng in Chinese) of Fengshan.

Fengshan is famous for its karst and caves. Due to the karst lava landscape, it was given the title of World Geopark. Since the first scientific investigation in 1987, nearly 30 investigations were carried out successively by expedition teams from countries such as Britain, France, the United States and Australia.
