Donglan farmers receive annuity increase

Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi, increased the basic standard of annuity for local farmers to 95 yuan ($15.17) in March.

Donglan county implemented a new type rural social endowment insurance in 2011. Local public officials publicized the new policy by establishing publicity desks, visiting ordinary farmers at their homes and distributing publicity materials.

The increase in the basic annuity standard has improved enthusiasm towards the new policy among farmers and has attracted more people to take up the policy. By December 2014, the number of insured people on the policy reached 76,408, with a 100 percent payment rate, ranking first in the city of Hechi.

In July, 2014, the basic standard of annuity for Donglan’s rural farmers increased by 15 yuan. In March 2015, the number was increased again. Rural seniors can receive 90 yuan of basic annuity from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and another five yuan in financial aid from the Donglan county government, amounting to 95 yuan in total.
