Hechi’s power industry breaks 10b yuan mark

According to Hechi’s committee of industry and information technology, Hechi’s gross industrial output value of the power industry in 2014 reached 10.1 billion yuan ($1.61 billion), 40 percent more than that in 2013. The power industry, following the non-ferrous metal industry and the forestry industry, has become the third industry with a value of over 10 billion yuan.

Abundant in power resources, Hechi has a total of 148 hydroelectric power stations, with an installed gross capacity of 8.4 million kilowatts. Larger stations in the area include the Longtan Hydropower Station with an installed capacity of 4.9 million kw, Yantan Power Station with an installed capacity of 1.81 million kw and the 560,000 kw Dahua Power Station. However, such stations did not perform well in recent years due to the lack of water from the upper reaches of Hongshui River.

In 2014, because of the abundant upland water of the Hongshui River and the completion of two more hydropower stations, Hechi added 660,000 kw of installed capacity, laying the foundations for the breakthrough of reaching a 10 billion yuan output value in the power industry. Hechi’s total electric energy production in 2014 was 25.7 billion kilowatt-hours, a 65 percent increase compared to 2013; and the output value reached 6.3 billion yuan, an increase of 78 percent. As for the three stations, the annual electric energy production of Longtan Hydropower Station totaled 13.85 billion kilowatt-hours, increasing 79 percent on last year’s figures. Yantan Power Station reached 7.16 billion kwh, up 71 percent; and Dahua Power Station reached 2.68 billion kwh with a growth of 40 percent compared to 2013.

In the field of electric power supply, Hechi has spent 510 million yuan on the grid construction, especially in industrial parks. Hechi’s annual electricity consumption was 6.2 billion kwh, in 2014, a 6 percent increase on the year before. The total industrial output value for electric power supply was 3.82 billion yuan, a 4.6 percent growth on 2013 and industrial electricity consumption reached 4 billion kwh, up 3.6 percent.

Hechi will go on to prepare for the second-stage construction of Longtan Power Station, optimize the electrical production structure, and improve grid facilities in Daren Industrial Park and rural areas.
