On Jan 13, the commencement ceremony of Huanjiang’s Maonan Folk Custom Street was held in the Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Hechi, Guangxi.

Many honorable guests attended the ceremony, such as the Deputy Director of the Hechi municipal People’s Congress, Wei Zhipeng; Party Secretary of the Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Huang Rongbiao; and the chairman of the Guangxi Huanjiang Huaxin Properties Limited – the construction company of the earlier stage of the project. This will become a leading project of Huanjiang’s new district construction and tourism development, and it will develop into a high quality custom street, benefiting both businessmen and local residents.

Tan Mian, chairman of the Huanjiang county political consultative conference, said that the project of the Maonan Folk Custom Street played a key role in Huanjiang’s urbanization construction. He hoped that the construction organization and the project supervising company could guarantee the safety and quality of the construction in order to make it a model project with social, economic and tourism benefits, as a gift for the county’s 30th anniversary.

According to the Supervisor of the Guangxi Huanjiang Huaxin Properties Limited – Chen Shiyue, the project covers about 210 mu (14 hectares), developing more than 180,000 square meters in three periods which lasts for four years. With a total investment of more than 600 million yuan ($96.07 million) and the aim of building an international level Maonan folk custom street integrating tourism, shopping, delicacy, recreation and culture, the project can provide more than 5,000 job posts and receive one million visitors and local customers annually once completed.

The Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi, is the cradle of the Maonan ethnic group and the only Maonan autonomous county in China. Its karst landscape has been included in the World Natural Heritage list since June 2014.

Insisting on a developmental focus of building an international-level ecological, recreational and cultural tourism destination, Huanjiang makes every effort to make the environment suitable for living on the basis of ecological friendly environment. With the emphasis of developing leisure and healthy tourism, it will become an international tourism destination with an abundance of ethnic culture.
