In recent years, Hechi has been paying great attention to ecological people-benefit projects. The local government has been striving to make innovations and improve the environmental quality in order to let Hechi residents enjoy more ecological benefits.

This year, Hechi’s forestry departments have actively reclaimed wasteland and planted forests. By Dec 16, Hechi had added a walnut planting area of 958,900 mu (63,900 hectares). The voluntary tree planting activity adds 7.529 million trees, an area of 484,900 mu. It is hoped that Hechi’s forest coverage rate will reach 68.47 percent by the end of this year.

To control the stony desertification, Hechi has taken many measures to change its ecologically vulnerable environmental conditions. So far, Hechi has completed 393 village afforestation projects, finishing 98 percent of the tasked objective. A total of 27-kilometers of rivers have been decorated with trees along the two sides.

To improve the environment comprehensively, along the two sides of the railways in Jinchengjiang, Yizhou, Luocheng, Huanjiang and Nandan, a total area of 12,400 mu artificial forests have been planted, accounting for 84 percent of the task and the government has also closed hillsides of 65,000 mu to facilitate afforestation, amounting to 100 percent of the task in hand. In addition, Hechi has finished the preliminary greening work of 39 wood processing enterprises along its railways.
