Hechi harvests in agricultural characteristic industries
“Although the output of pearl plums was affected by the hail disaster this year, the total income still reached nearly one million yuan ($160,000) with the strong support and promotion of the Party committee and government of Tian’e county”, said a fruit grower – Tian Yanrong in Wufu village, Tian’e county, Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Since it came into season in August, Tian’e’s 4.5 million kilograms of pearl plums have been purchased within several months, with a total output value reaching 40 million yuan.
Since this year, Hechi has been striving to adjust its agricultural structure, expand bases, cultivate markets and improve services to further develop its agricultural characteristic industries such as silkworms, sugarcane, fruit and edible mushrooms, and lead local farmers to achieve healthy, rapid and efficient development.
The silkworm industry is outperforming the annual plan, with a total planting area of 785,900 mu (52,393 hectares), 22,400 mu more than last year, and producing 107,700 tons of fresh cocoons. The planting area of sugarcane remains steady, with 1.27 million mu and an expected output of over 4.8 million tons. The characteristic fruit industries are developing rapidly this year, with a gross planting area of 807,000 mu, 155 percent of the annual task, and the expected output is over 350,000 tons. By the end of November, Hechi has established 53 edible mushroom standardized production bases. It is expected that 150 million edible mushrooms will be cultivated this year, reaching an output value of 500 million yuan.
