The third China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo was held from Oct 10 to Oct 13 in Jinan, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Shandong Provincial Government.

Hechi’s intangible cultural heritage and creative derivatives, which were recommended by Hechi’s National Bronze-drum Culture Ecological Preservation Experimental Zone, caught people’s attention. Tan Sujuan, the inheritor of Maonan’s special bamboo hat, and He Jinxiu, the inheritor of Yao’s traditional clothing, won the best award for inheritors at the expo. Bronze drums and Shi Qin, Hechi’s intangible cultural heritages, were also performed at the expo.

The expo was themed “Intangible cultural heritage: our lifestyle”. It was aimed at demonstrating the achievement of the national protection of the cultural ecological protective zone and improving the development of the protection of intangible cultural heritage through the trade of intangible cultural heritage products and derivatives.

Hechi’s National Bronze-drum Culture Ecological Preservation Experimental Zone has preserved many intangible cultural heritages in Hechi, including the traditional culture of the bronze drum, the culture of the Maguais Festival and folk songs of the Zhuang ethnic group. Hechi has developed and named more than five national cultural ecological preservation experimental bases, more than 50 municipal inheritors of intangible cultural heritages and Hechi bronze-drum culture ecological villages.

Bamboo hats of the Maonan ethnic group and other derivative products of intangible cultural heritages gained great popularity at the expo. Thousands of visitors enjoyed the bronze drum’s performance of Jasmine and Shi Qin’s performance of Jingle Bells at the expo.
