The China State Ethnic Affairs Commission recently published the first batch of 340 Chinese ‘ethnic characteristic’ villages. A total of 59 ethnic villages in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region were included in the list and five of them are in Hechi.

Hechi’s chosen villages include Huaili, Wangshang and Baha in Nandan county, Shiwei in Luocheng Mulao autonomous county as well as Nanchang in Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county.

The characteristic villages were selected according to standards of their ownership of distinctive features, powerful industrial support, a rich ethnic culture, a beautiful environment and harmonious ethnic relationships. They have achieved remarkable effects in protecting their traditional residences, promoting outstanding ethnic culture, cultivating local industries, developing ethnic tourism and improving people’s living conditions.

The selection will further amplify the influence of the ethnic characteristic villages and boost their protection and development.
