In the height of midsummer, as sweltering heat envelops the country, Longguang village in Kaiyang county has become popular among tourists from all over China seeking a cool summer retreat.

In recent years, Longguang village has leveraged its healthy environment, rich resources, and easy accessibility to vigorously develop its rural summer retreat industry. The village has revitalized over 20 idle rural houses, turning 20 homeowners into shareholders and transforming 15 nearby residents into service staff. On average, the village receives over 40 visitors each week for study tours and tourism, benefiting more than 167 households.

Li Guangfu, a resident of Longguang village, shared that since his homestay started operating in May this year, it has achieved a gross monthly profit of 70,000 yuan ($9,660), bringing increased prosperity to his family.

He often takes his guests on local mountain tours and fruit-picking trips. The guests are very satisfied with his warm and thoughtful services.

Moreover, the retreat industry has provided excellent employment opportunities for local residents. During the peak season in July and August, some local women who stay home to care for their children can work in the guesthouses, earning between 2,400 and 3,000 yuan per month.

The annual per capita income in Longguang village increased from 8,170 yuan in 2013 to 23,800 yuan in 2023, with the tourism industry contributing an average income increase of 12,800 yuan per person among local villagers.
