The government of China's Southwest Guizhou province – driven by its local advantages in resources – has listed its beef sector as a key development industry and has introduced a series of support policies since the start of the current year.

Responding to that, Kaiyang county in Guiyang city – capital of Guizhou – is working hard to promote the development of its beef industry.

Recently, Guizhou Sanhe Chengxin Biotechnology Co introduced 200 heads of cattle from Jilin province. Typically, they have strong limbs and bones, exhibiting good growth at the later stage of their development – traits which have aroused the interest of farmers to breed the cattle.

Kaiyang currently has 13,000 beef farms, home to 34,700 heads of cattle. In 2024, by supporting and cultivating a special group of farms, the county is focusing on promoting the development of family ranches.

Taking Guanzhuang village and Anping village as its cattle breeding bases, Kaiyang is working to establish a demonstration village for breeding – paving the way for the beef industry to be a new engine for local economic development.

Moving forwards, plans are for Kaiyang to boost its coordination with local banks to streamline loans procedures. It's hoped this will help solve the issue of insufficient industry development funds and ensure the introduction of 12,000 heads of cattle from outside the province and sales over 10,000 heads in 2024.
