Kaiyang's tourism industry thrives throughout 2023

In 2023, Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, sought to boost tourism by carrying out a series of entertainment projects, turning the tourism industry into a new engine for the county's economic development.

The county received 8.70 million tourists in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 23.12 percent, and achieved tourism revenue of 9.65 billion yuan ($1.33 billion), a year-on-year increase of 31.81 percent. The county was listed among the top 100 counties of the year in terms of comprehensive tourism strength in China, ranking third in the province.

In order to provide new outdoor tourism experiences for tourists, the county constructed five camping bases and opened 150 homestays, relying on its natural and cultural landscapes.  "Yunzhongjun Paragliding Base" in particular became a hit on popular apps such as Douyin and Xiaohongshu.

Furthermore, the county carried out 37 special rectification actions on the tourism market, including low-priced customer solicitation and car and guide service solicitation. In addition, the county inspected 436 tourist venues and identified 308 rectification issues, helping to standardize the tourism market and improve satisfaction among tourists.
