The 200MW/400MWh centralized energy storage power station in Kaiyang county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been successfully connected to the grid and completed its initial charging.

The station, located in Liangshuijing village of Kaiyang county, has an installed capacity of 200 megawatts/400 megawatt-hours. With a total investment of approximately 659 million yuan ($92.19 million), it is the sole energy storage project in Guiyang and currently one of the largest of its kind in Guizhou.

With the rapid development of new energy generation facilities in Guizhou, peak demand for power in the Guizhou power grid is steadily increasing. According to data from the Provincial Energy Bureau, by the end of 2023, the capacity of completed energy storage power stations in Guizhou is expected to reach between 1.5 to 2 gigawatts.

Accelerating the construction of energy storage power stations will not only help alleviate pressure on the power supply during the peak summer and winter periods, meeting peak demand, but will also address the intermittency and volatility issues associated with renewable energy generation in the regional power grid.

This will facilitate the widespread and efficient utilization of intermittent, low-density renewable clean energy. It will also meet the needs of the province's development of a new-type power system, playing a crucial role in promoting high-quality energy development.

The station, in addition to serving local economic development, will also further enhance the province's capacity for power supply security and raise the level of new energy integration.
