Construction on the heat and power co-generation project in the Kaiyang Industrial Park in Kaiyang county, along with its supporting facilities, is being accelerated.

The Kaiyang heat and power co-generation project commenced construction in early April 2023. Currently, work is proceeding on the main plant structure, chimney, outer cylinder wall, and the front area of the plant.

Approximately 200 workers are involved in daily construction, with that number increasing to around 300 during peak periods. The first unit is expected to be operational and ready to supply steam to neighboring enterprises by the end of August 2024.

The project has cost nearly 2 billion yuan ($280.80 million), with a planned construction area of 380 mu (25.33 hectares). In the first phase, it is expected to supply approximately 4.1 million metric tons of steam annually and generate around 700 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

After completion, it is expected to generate an average annual sales revenue of 1 billion yuan and pay 30 million yuan in taxes.

As the sole heat source for centralized heating in Kaiyang Industrial Park, the heat and power co-generation project is expected to fulfill the steam requirements for enterprises in the industrial park, including the lithium battery and new chemical industries.

In addition to meeting the thermal demand of the park's enterprises, the generated electricity can be supplied to the Guiyang power grid. This will also contribute to the energy foundation of industrial development in Guiyang City and Guian New Area, promoting the advancement of new industrialization.
