In the first half of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Kaiyang county increased 7 percent to 13.89 billion yuan ($1.93 billion), compared to the same period in 2022. The proportions of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors' added value to GDP were 14.5 percent, 41.4 percent and 44.1 percent, respectively.

Since the beginning of this year, Kaiyang has been focusing on the development and expansion of "ecological, high efficiency, low carbon, energy conserving and environmentally-friendly" industries such as new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, and energy conservation to promote the upgrading of green industries.

On March 23 this year, Guizhou Anda Technology Energy Co became the first local listed company in Kaiyang. The company has completely eliminated traditional phosphorus chemical production and is focusing on the new energy battery material industry. Its output value reached 1.5 billion yuan in 2017.

The company currently has a production capacity of 60,000 metric tons of iron phosphate and 90,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate. After expansion, the capacity will reach 150,000 tons. This year, the expected output value is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan.

The county's goal is to build a green and circular new energy battery material industry system that promotes the symbiotic coupling of the upstream and downstream sectors, and aims to become the "Capital of Energy Storage" in China. The output value of Kaiyang's new energy battery and materials industry this year is projected to reach 11.7 billion yuan.
