A launch ceremony for the province's first and only medical cloud imaging and film platform was held in Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on July 11.

Cloud films, as the name suggests, are electronic films stored in the cloud. They are a new type of medical imaging service based on mobile internet and cloud storage technologies. It features quick retrieval, cross-hospital access, and simple operation, which provides support for internet-based remote medical consultations, remote referrals, and hierarchical diagnosis.

In the past, patients could only bring physical films such as CTs, X-rays, and MRIs to the hospital.

With the debut of cloud film and its interconnected and mutually recognized image data system, patients do not have to undergo repetitive examinations and can avoid the problems of remote referrals or online consultations that are unable to provide timely access to image films. Doctors and patients can access and view cloud reports and images at any time using their mobile phones, tablets, or computers.

Since the trial use of cloud films at the end of June, in just over 10 days, nearly 10,000 people have benefited from the cloud film services at Kaiyang County People's Hospital, accounting for about 75 percent of the total number of patients seeking medical examination at the hospital.

Next, Kaiyang aims to complete platform access for all county-level public hospitals and township health centers in this August. This will be done to promote the application and development of information technology in medical and health services.
