In recent years, the Yunkai sub-district of Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made every effort to safeguard drinking water for local residents.

To date, a total of 558,000 yuan ($80,287.78) has been utilized to restore, maintain and renovate 19 rural centralized water source projects and 16 decentralized water source projects in this jurisdiction.

More than 5,900 villagers have benefited from these projects, and the coverage rate of safe drinking water in rural areas has reached 100 percent.

The newly-installed water supply pipelines in Shitou village are an example of Yunkai sub-district efforts to guarantee clean drinking water.

Since August last year, Kaiyang has been experiencing a continuous drought, and because of this, the original projects that supplied safe drinking water to Shitou village have been exhausted. Since then, local residents and animals alike have been worried about where to get more safe drinking water.

The new 10-kilometer pipeline was finished within 12 days, and now provides drinkable water for around 800 villagers from 300 households.
