A battery-grade monoammonium phosphate project is currently under rapid construction in Kaiyang county in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- with the project costing an estimated 97 million yuan ($13.84 million) and being funded by Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group Kailin Joint Stock Company.

The plant is designed to produce 200,000 tons per annum of monoammonium phosphate, or MAP, which is used in the production of lithium batteries.

It is reported that the production process will adopt proprietary crystallization technology developed in cooperation with Tianjin University, using the purification acid or fertilizer acid as the raw material after pretreatment.

When the plant starts production, it will add to the use of the company's phosphate rock deposits and greatly increase the added value of those resources.

The company indicated that the new plant is currently undergoing the installation of internal and external piping and dryers. It is also laying electrical and instrument cables, paving the way for the next step of equipment commissioning and trial production.

Hu Qian, the company's research and development engineer, said that the project is now about 92 percent complete. It is expected the build-out will finish on Nov 30 and trial production will start in mid-December.
