Guiyang city receives national recognition for IP protection

The city of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently selected as one of China's 38 demonstration cities for intellectual property protection, according to the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

In recent years, Guiyang has launched various policies to protect intellectual property or IP, manage IP funding, boost the use and protection of geographical indications and mediate between intellectual property disputes.

The policies focus on the development of featured industries and support strategic emerging industries, modern manufacturing, modern agriculture and other industries, in order to develop independent IP rights.

Currently, Guiyang has 62,900 valid patents, 3,094 high-value invention patents, seven national IP demonstration enterprises and 24 national IP advantage enterprises.

It also has 81 enterprises that have won 11 China (Guizhou) patent awards, 25 well-known trademarks and 18 geographical indications.

In 2021, Guiyang got the green light to start construction of the China (Guiyang) Intellectual Property Protection center. What's more, the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone was recognized as national intellectual property demonstration industrial park and the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone was recognized as national intellectual property pilot industrial park.

In the same year, Guizhou University was selected as one of the national intellectual pilot universities and Guizhou Medical University became a national university intellectual property information service center.

Moving forwards, plans are for the Guiyang bureau of market regulation to attract more IP-related personnel, strictly protect and efficiently utilize IP and optimize its intellectual property services.
