Bee sugar plums bring fortune to Kaiyang planters

With summer approaching its peak in July, bee sugar plums grown in Longshui township in Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, have entered picking season.

The bee sugar plum is a special kind of plum with a sweet and crispy taste that is popular among consumers.

Longshui township has a minimum altitude of 631 meters, an annual average temperature of about 16.5 C, and soil rich in trace elements, making it very suitable for planting fine fruits.

Since 2015, Longshui township has arranged for local farmers to plant more than 7,000 mu (466.67 hectares) of bee sugar plums.

Around 6,000 mu of the plum trees have already started to bear fruit, and the per mu yield of bee sugar plums has reached 750kg.

After fruit picking, selection, packing and refrigeration, the bee sugar plums will be sent to places inside and outside Guizhou province to be sold.

Growing bee sugar plums has brought more economic benefits to local residents than other crops, according to a villager.
