New water reservoir starts construction in Kaiyang

The Zhanjiawan water reservoir in the jurisdiction of Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, officially started construction on June 20.

The water reservoir is one of several small-scale reservoir projects included in the Guizhou Plan for Water Conservancy Construction, Ecological Construction and Rocky Desertification Comprehensive Control.

Construction of the water reservoir will include water retaining structures, discharge structures, water intake (and emptying) structures, and canal structures. The main body of the dam is a rockfill concrete gravity dam.

The water reservoir is expected to cost up to 73.02 million yuan ($10.96 million) and it will ensure the safe drinking water, agricultural irrigation and flood control and release needs of rural people and livestock in Shitou village, Chengguan town in Kaiyang county, and promote the development of local agricultural industries and rural revitalization.
