Utilization of straw in Guiyang to be further improved

In 2022, the total utilization rate of straw in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is expected to exceed 89 percent, with 400,000 metric tons of straw to be re-used.

Meanwhile, the mechanized crushing of straw returned to the field will cover more than 600,000 mu (40,000 hectares).

The information was announced by the Guiyang Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs at a rape straw comprehensive utilization training seminar held in Hefeng township in Kaiyang county on May 10.

The training session was attended by around 50 agricultural machinery and agricultural technicians from districts and counties across Guiyang.

Professional technicians from Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group were invited to explain how to use organic material decomposing agents and provide on-site demonstrations of their rotary tillers.

The fertilization technology of planting crop straw was explained through the methods of returning straw to the field after decomposing and returning straw to the field by crushing and pressing.

Crop straw is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other trace elements, and can be reused.

Improving the comprehensive utilization rate of straw will eliminate or reduce the occurrence of straw burning, effectively improve the agricultural environment, and further promote the increase of farmers' incomes and the sustainable development of agricultural production.

The comprehensive utilization rate of straw in Guiyang has been on the rise for a number of years. In 2021, a total of 380,000 tons of straw were used, a utilization rate of 87.3 percent.
