Ditch to boost Maoping village development

A 587-meter-long ditch is currently being built in Maoping village in Kaiyang county. It will improve the village's farmland irrigation and flood drainage and help prevent drought.

Due to lack of maintenance, the ditch was covered in weeds, severely silted and had no water year-round, severely impacting surrounding households and agricultural production.

To change this situation, the village's population working as migrant workers has donated around 400,000 yuan ($60,1500) to support the construction of the ditch.

After the ditch is finished, kiwi and persimmon trees will be planted along its banks in an effort to generate additional income for locals.
