Kaiyang to get halogen-free flame retardant plant

The government of Kaiyang signed an agreement with Zhejiang Fujin New Material Co on Sept 2, to build a production plant for halogen-free flame retardants, according to local officials in the county of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Flame retardants are substances or compounds that are added to other materials -- such as plastics, coatings and textiles -- to prevent or delay the the spread of fire and halogens are a group of highly reactive elements used in industry.

The plant will cost 350 million yuan ($50.07 million) and will produce 35,000 metric tons of halogen-free flame retardant annually -- achieving yearly revenue of 463 million yuan and providing jobs for around 280 people.

The facility will play a positive role in the supply chain and extension of the phosphorus chemicals industry chain in Kaiyang, adding that it will make positive contributions to promoting the high-quality economic and social development of the county.

Wang Qiyun, Party secretary of Kaiyang, said the county would create a sounder environment and provide better government services in the future.
