Kaiyang running event hailed as stunning success

The Kaiyang cross country running competition was an outstanding success, according to organizers. The two-day event was held in Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, from Aug 29 to 30.

The activity was sponsored by the people's government of Kaiyang county. Around 150 running enthusiasts from Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan and Chongqing took part in the early-autumn competition.

Runners could choose from a 30-kilometer race, a 50-km race, an 80-km race and a 120-km race.

The competition's marked routes took runners through Kaiyang county's representative scenic sites and villages, offering race participants the chance to appreciate the county’s unique natural and rural landscapes.

Organizers said that the event showcased the area's rural development achievements and boosted local tourism and mountain sports integration.

After fierce competitions, Wang Guang and Kang Jialan won the 30-km men's and women's championships, respectively, while Wang Haiyang and Li Liping won the 50-km men's and women's championships. Meanwhile, Wang Xiaolin won the 80-km championship in 14 hours, 8 minutes and 9 seconds, and Lei Huachun won the 120-km championship in 32 hours, 54 minutes and 57 seconds.
