The government of Jinzhong town, Kaiyang county in Guizhou province, has ramped up efforts to improve its rural environment.

The town has enhanced its waste treatment mechanisms, improved oversight of infrastructure construction and promoted government and enterprise synergy. It has invested 76,000 yuan ($10,989.6) to purchase one garbage truck and install 98 rubbish bins and 50 dumpsters.

Jinzhong town has also optimized 22 garbage collection facilities, ensuring that each is equipped with a hook-arm garbage truck, sprinkling truck, refuse transfer truck and street-cleaning vehicle.

Meanwhile, the government has partnered with four mining enterprises, investing over 500,000 yuan on slag transport, shed construction, solid waste cover and ecological restoration.

Town authorities have signed "responsibility pledges" with a range of enterprises and launched daily supervision checks and weekly reports to ensure transparency.

Jinzhong has also stepped up efforts to improve the water quality of the Yangshui River, strengthening public awareness of river protection and prohibiting or limiting livestock and poultry breeding in villages along the river. Also, authorities are urging private mining enterprises to build sewage treatment facilities and intensify third-party supervision for best sewage treatment.

The town plans to plant moso bamboo across a 10,000-mu (666.67 hectares) area to combat the loss of forests and increasing desertification around the Yangshui and Fengyan rivers.

More than 4,600 mu of moso bamboo has currently been planted. Jinzhong now boasts 73,000 mu of forest area, with the coverage rate reaching 66.63 percent – ranking first in the county.

The town's efforts also include the integration of industry and ecology, and the co-development of micro-landscape, micro-garden and micro-environment areas.

To attract tourists, Jinzhong has launched various tourism projects, including moso bamboo sightseeing, fruit picking and rural tours.
