Plums help Kaiyang farmers get out of poverty

Farmers merrily pick plums in an orchard in Longshui township in Kaiyang county which is administered by Guiyang city, in China's southwestern Guizhou province. Longshui township is expanding its cultivation of plum trees in order to help local villagers get out of poverty. At present, the township has planted more than 6,000 mu of plums, which has involved the participation of 27 people from nine poverty-stricken households. This year, the estimated output of plums in Longshui is expected to reach more than 500,000 kilograms, with an output value of about 20 million yuan ($2.86 million). [Photo/kaiyang.gov.cn]
