Kaiyang allocates over 36 million yuan to improve education quality

Southwest China's Kaiyang county government has allocated a total of 36.17 million yuan ($5.16 million) on improving education or students in the area in 2019, according to local education officials.

They said a total of 72,282 students will be benefit from the targeted poverty alleviation campaign, which tries to prevent children not to drop out of school due to poverty.

For preschool children, Kaiyang issued a subsidy of 277,500 yuan for the whole year to help 743 children with difficulties.

Meanwhile, the county has allocated a living subsidy of 4.12 million yuan to 7,715 students at the compulsory education stage which was disbursed during two school semesters. Furthermore, officials added, no tuition was charged for regular senior high schools.

Kaiyang has also launched a campaign to help students improve the nutrition in their diet. A total of 15.03 million yuan was allocated to 60 middle and primary schools, benefiting 37,567 students.
