Jinzhong goes for growth, swaps corn for moso bamboo

A group of officials from Jinzhong township in Kaiyang county, in Guizhou province participated in a bamboo plantation activity on Dec 4.

Jinzhong township has always adhered to the green development ideology and made great efforts to deepen its supply-side structural reform.

The town has quit planting corn, which locals say is an inefficient crop. The town government has now focused on plantation of moso bamboo, a winter hardy giant bamboo.

The town has planned to plant moso bamboo in an area of 192.7 hectares from 2019 to 2020.

A total of 666.7 hectares of moso bamboo will be planted along the Yangshui River and Fengyan River.

On Dec 4, officials from Jinzhong township took the lead in planting moso bamboo. A total of 2,500 moso bamboo shoots were planted on the day.

So far, 144.1 hectares of moso bamboo has been planted in the town, completing the target for 2019.
