The 1st Huaxi Tunpu Culture Orienteering Race was held in Shiban town, Huaxi district, on Dec 10.

The event is meant to infuse sports with traditional Tunpu culture to promote the culture and develop tourism combining sports and culture.

Tunpu culture originated in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Tunpu, as a kind of stone fortress, was built to consolidate the multi-ethnic regimes of the early Ming Dynasty.

Orienteering is hailed as the "darling of emerging sports in the 21st century." It is a sport that integrates both mental and physical capabilities. In this competition, participants used specialized orienteering maps to navigate through a designated area, overcoming various obstacles along the way. The objective was to swiftly reach specified checkpoints, complete tasks at each location, and ultimately reach the finish line.

These checkpoints displayed both cultural elements of Huaxi Tunpu and natural rural landscapes.

The competition encompassed various locations, including Ludi Camp, Wu Zhongfan's Former Residence, Huajie Camp and Bailong Camp.
