Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–25) period, Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has seen a sharp rise in economic strength.

Its GDP is expected to exceed 90 billion yuan ($12.86 billion) in 2025, with an average annual growth of 5.3 percent. In 2024, its per capita GDP reached 117,000 yuan, higher than national, provincial and city averages.

Market vitality has surged. The number of market entities more than doubled from 69,000 to 150,000 during the period. The Guanshanhu-based Financial City now hosts over two-thirds of Guizhou's financial institutions, while the district has attracted 52 headquarters enterprises and 20 buildings, generating over 100 million yuan in annual tax revenue each.

Utilizing national platforms such as the China International Big Data Industry Expo and the China (Guizhou) International Alcoholic Beverages Expo, Guanshanhu has driven 30 billion yuan in cumulative economic benefits across related industries.

Commercial growth has also accelerated. Six new shopping complexes opened and more than 200 first-store brands were launched.

Eight themed tourism streets were built, and the Guiyang Southwest International Trade City achieved a 150-percent increase in annual revenue, from 20 billion to 50 billion yuan.

Population inflows remain strong. From 2021 to 25, the district is expected to see an additional 140,000 permanent residents, ranking among the highest in Guiyang in net population growth. Thanks to the "Innovation Hub Guanshanhu" talent initiative, the district's talent pool has now surpassed 190,000, providing solid support for innovation-driven development.
