The new Guangdong Museum building opened to the public in 2010, and boasts a total construction area of 67,000 square meters with the technical equipment and conditions for the modern collection exhibition, preserving and protection of artifacts.
The architecture was designed as "a container filled with Treasures on the Green Belt," and the inspiration for the spatial structure came from the traditional Chinese ivory ball. The new Guangdong Museum has become a landmark building of Guangzhou city.
Guangdong Museum houses over 160,000 pieces/sets of artworks, of which two types of historical relics, namely ancient calligraphy/painting and porcelain, are of the top ranks of all Chinese museums. Duan inkslab, Chaozhou Wood Carving, Artistic Products for Foreign Trade, Unearthed Relics, Relics Recovered from Underwater and Collectibles from Mother Nature are the best collections here at the museum. In addition, the museum also houses over 110,000 volumes of books.
A perfect infrastructure and management system enables the Guangdong Museum to rank highest in the nation.
